FREEDOM AS DEVELOPMENT IN AMARTYA SEN

This scientific paper studies some of the main concepts of the Indian economist Amartya Sen’s work. His research surmises freedom’s development as a means to human and social effectiveness. His work advocates the concurrent relation between government intervention and the expansion of individual initiative as a fundamental link to improve democratic regimes. The aim of this paper is present what Amartya Sen meant by “instrumental freedoms” and how they are connected to the desired development idealized by the economist. We conclude that his research on welfare equality is important in the context of unequal countries like Brazil.
