AN ANALYSIS OF DEATH WITH DIGNITY IN LIGHT OF JOHN RAWLS ́S THEORY OF POLITICAL LIBERALISM

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the theme of death with dignity from the design of the Political Liberalism John Rawls. It examines, initially, the central aspects of Liberalism’s design by Rawls, especially the approach on the reasonable pluralism, the overlapping consensus, the priority of freedom and comprehensive moral doctrines. Later, we discuss the major concepts about death with dignity, as related to euthanasia, the orthothanasia and futility. Finally, in a third and final time, a death with dignity analysis is made from the concepts presented by John Rawls in his theory of the Political Liberalism, which is defended a model of society in which citizens are free to draw up themselves and others as individuals who have the moral right to have a conception of the good, and to be free, themselves as able to take responsibility for their own ends. The construction of this proposal we used the literature review as a research technique.
