REFLECTIONS OVER THE ROLE OF THE STATE IN THE PRODUCTION OF NATIONAL WEALTH

This paper discusses the States role in the creation of national wealth in the context of the transition to a capitalist society, according Adam Smith. The methodology of revision of the literature is based on in the historical method suggested by John Pocock in his studies over the close connection between the linguistic context, comprehended as cultural resource available in each epoch, and the historical context, inside of which the author is situated. The paper will tempt to show that Adam Smith, as a thinker situated in the cultural universe currently called Scottish Enlightenment, not only founded the basis for the scientific study of the economic phenomenon, but also gave notable contributions to the construction of the Theory of the State according to the liberal perspective.
