A BIOPOLITICAL ANALYSIS OF FAKE NEWS AS CAUSES OF INCREASING SOCIAL INEQUALITY IN A BIOCAPITALIST SOCIETY

Abstract

The article seeks to highlith a biopolitical analysis of Fake News as causing the increase in social inequality in a society based on biocapitalism. The rupture with the absolutist model and the approximation of the power of the biopolitical makes it necessary to study the Fake News as a mechanism of biopolitical control. It pointed out that the way wich power is exercised in society has changed and, because of that, has approached not only biopolitics but also joined the capitalist system, giving rise to the called biocapitalism. This union between power, capitalism and biopolitics, when combined with the monetization system that predominates on the world wide web, makes it easier to transmit Fake News on websites. The result of this analysis is demonstrated with the conclusion that in addition to the monetization system behind the Fake News, there is also a human factor that causes them to be shared and replicated on the internet. In this path, it was pointed out that the body machining and the crowd that gives life to the flesh is essential to lead people to share the false content. Finally, the research under consideration considered that another factor that explains why citizens share this type of content is related to the new way of “being” in cyberspace, a way that is closely related to the creation of subjectivities. The research that employed the methods: deductive, dialectical, historical and bibliographic research respectively, made use of the ideas of thinkers such as: Michel Foucault, Zygmunt Bauman, Jeremy Benthan, Antônio Negri, among others.
